After breakfast, we’ll begin the day with a visit to Dakshinkali Temple, one of Kathmandu’s most revered Hindu shrines. Dedicated to the fierce goddess Kali—whose name translates to “black”—the temple is known for its vivid rituals, including animal sacrifices offered by devotees. From there, we’ll stop at Chobhar Gorge, located just 8 kilometers southwest of Kathmandu. According to legend, this dramatic cleft in the hills was created by Lord Manjushree to drain a great lake that once filled the valley. We'll also explore Kirtipur, a historic city rich in both Hindu and Buddhist traditions, known for its temples and storied past.
Our journey continues to Patan, or Lalitpur—the “City of Fine Arts.” Enclosed by four ancient stupas believed to have been built by Emperor Ashoka in the 3rd century AD, Patan is a treasure trove of cultural heritage. We'll stroll through the beautiful Durbar Square, where highlights include a stunning bronze artifact collection, the ornate Krishna Temple built by King Siddhi Narsingh Malla, Hiranya Varna Mahavihar (the Golden Temple), and the intricately carved Mahaboudha Temple.
We’ll then travel to Bhaktapur, a medieval city that still exudes the charm of a traditional village with its artisan homes and lively squares. Finally, we continue to Dhulikhel, where sweeping views of the majestic Himalayan range await—an inspiring end to a day steeped in legend, art, and spirituality.
