Scenic routes such as the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway reveal some of the park’s most dramatic views and provide a memorable introduction to southern Utah’s red-rock country.

Itinerary

+ Day 1:  Salt Lake City – Mystic Hot Springs – Zion National Park – Kanab

Mystic Hot Springs
Depart Salt Lake City and travel south through Utah’s changing high-desert landscapes. Along the way, stop at Mystic Hot Springs for a relaxing soak in naturally heated mineral waters surrounded by the open scenery of central Utah.

Zion National Park
Continue south to Zion National Park, where towering sandstone cliffs, narrow canyons, and striking rock formations create one of the most dramatic landscapes in the American Southwest. Depending on park conditions and available time, explore scenic highlights such as Checkerboard Mesa, viewpoints along the Zion–Mount Carmel Highway, and other accessible areas of the park.

Kanab
After exploring Zion, continue through southern Utah to Kanab. Surrounded by red-rock cliffs and desert landscapes, this small Western town has long served as a gateway to some of the region’s most remote natural areas.

+ Day 2:  Kanab – Grand Staircase-Escalante Area – Page, Arizona – Kanab

Grand Staircase-Escalante Area
Set out from Kanab for a day exploring the remarkable landscapes of the Grand Staircase-Escalante region. This vast area is known for colorful sandstone formations, sculpted cliffs, desert trails, and remote backcountry scenery. Your day’s exploration will be selected according to road, weather, and operating conditions, allowing the itinerary to take advantage of the best accessible experiences in the area.

Page, Arizona
Continue to Page, Arizona, a desert community surrounded by some of the Southwest’s most recognizable landscapes. Depending on the day’s arrangements and operating conditions, there will be time to experience the Page area before returning to Kanab.

Kanab
Return to Kanab in the late afternoon or evening for an additional night.

+ Day 3:  Kanab – Bryce Canyon National Park – Scenic Highway 12 – Escalante – Torrey

Bryce Canyon National Park
Travel north to Bryce Canyon National Park, famous for its extraordinary concentration of colorful hoodoos rising from a series of natural amphitheaters. Explore selected viewpoints overlooking the canyon, with opportunities for short walks or additional exploration depending on weather, trail conditions, and the group’s pace.

Scenic Highway 12 & Escalante
Continue east along Scenic Highway 12, one of southern Utah’s signature scenic drives. The route connects Bryce Canyon with the landscapes around Grand Staircase-Escalante and Capitol Reef, passing through changing elevations, sandstone country, forested plateaus, and broad desert vistas.

Travel through the Escalante area and enjoy scenic stops along the route as time and conditions allow.

Torrey
Arrive in Torrey, the gateway community to Capitol Reef National Park, and settle in for the evening.

+ Day 4:  Torrey – Capitol Reef National Park – Goblin Valley State Park – Salt Lake City

Capitol Reef National Park
Begin the day in Capitol Reef National Park, known for its dramatic cliffs, canyons, domes, and the Waterpocket Fold—a remarkable geologic feature stretching across southern Utah. Explore selected areas of the park and discover traces of the region’s human history around the historic Fruita district.

Goblin Valley State Park
Continue to Goblin Valley State Park, where thousands of unusual sandstone formations—often called “goblins”—create an otherworldly desert landscape. Enjoy time to walk among the formations and photograph this distinctive Utah scenery.

Salt Lake City
After the visit, continue north to Salt Lake City, where the tour concludes with drop-off at Salt Lake City International Airport or a designated local hotel.
