About China
This journey traces three very different sides of China. In the north, Beijing holds the country’s imperial heart, from the Forbidden City and the Summer Palace to the watchtowers of the Mutianyu Great Wall. Inland lies Xi’an, one of the world’s great ancient capitals and the eastern end of the Silk Road, where the Terracotta Warriors still stand guard over the tomb of China’s first emperor. Finally, Chengdu opens up the warmth of Sichuan, with its beloved giant pandas, the haunting bronze masks of the Sanxingdui civilization, the ancient waterworks of Dujiangyan, and a food culture known for its bold, fiery flavors. Together these regions reveal a country that is at once deeply historic and very much alive.
